Frequently asked questions

Wear it pink day is Breast Cancer Now’s flagship fundraising event. We ask people across the UK to hold a pink dress down or dress up day at work, at school or in your community. Everyone wears something pink and makes a donation to Breast Cancer Now.

Some people also hold a cake sale, organise a raffle, arrange a pink fancy dress competition or anything else that will help raise more money for breast cancer research. Whatever you do, do it in pink!

You can find new ideas and downloadable materials on our website to help you raise even more money – so keep popping back to see what’s new!

This year, wear it pink day will be held on 21 October. So, on Friday 21 October put on that pink top, proudly drape that pink feather boa around your neck, or pull up those pink socks in support of people affected by breast cancer.

Register now.

Everyone who pays in to wear it pink will receive a certificate automatically, to proudly display. Certificates will be posted out after wear it pink day on 21 October and can take around 2 weeks to arrive.

If you’d like anything specific on your certificate, or more copies please do let us know by emailing wearitpink@breastcancernow.org.

Gift Aid is a brilliant way of increasing the value of your donation at no cost to yourself.

Anyone who is a UK income tax payer can reclaim the basic rate of tax on their donation, which means that for every £1 donated, Breast Cancer Now will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that you have given.

It doesn’t cost you a penny more and the additional support will help to fund Breast Cancer Now’s vital work; making a difference to the lives of even more people affected by breast cancer.

So please pop your Gift Aid form with your collection box and remember to encourage everyone who donates to your wear it pink day to tick the Gift Aid column on your Gift Aid form and provide their full name, house number and postcode (home address only please).

To qualify for Gift Aid you must be a UK tax payer and pay an amount of Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax each tax year (6 April – 5 April) at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

If you are the wear it pink day organiser, please note that HMRC do not allow Gift Aid claims of one total amount that you have collected in and added to the form. Please encourage anyone who has donated to your collection to add their details to the Gift Aid form for the individual amount they donated.

To find out more about Gift Aid, visit the HMRC website.

You can let us know at any time whether you are eligible for Gift Aid or not by getting in touch with our Supporter Care Team:

email at hello@breastcancernow.org or by phoning 0333 20 70 300.

Many companies will support their employees’ charity of choice by offering to match the funds raised. Please ask your employer as it’s a fantastic way to boost your fundraising efforts and helps Breast Cancer Now fund even more research and care!

In April 2019, Breast Cancer Now merged with Breast Cancer Care to create one charity for everyone affected by breast cancer.

From research to care, our new charity has people affected by breast cancer at its heart – providing support for today and hope for the future. The money you raise by taking part in wear it pink could help fund a potentially life-saving research breakthrough, provide even more life-changing support and campaign even more effectively for better services and care.

United, our aim is that, by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live and receive the support they need to live well.

If you would like to find out more about our research, please visit our main website.

We don’t have a shop this year, so unfortunately you can’t purchase any official wear it pink merchandise.

If you need any extra materials for your wear it pink day, you can order them online here or send us an email at wearitpink@breastcancernow.org and we’ll be able to help you.
