I first got involved with wear it pink back in 2014 and haven’t looked back since. Every year it has got bigger and bigger and the support of our community here at St Catherine’s has just been overwhelming. Everyone gets involved and the students look forward to the events every year.

I think that it is more important now than ever for our girls to be educated in terms of taking care of themselves and being aware of serious health issues that may affect them or the people around them in the future. In recent years some of our staff have been directly affected by breast cancer and so we have really dedicated ourselves to supporting the charity.

Hitting those milestones!

We raised a phenomenal amount of money with our wear it pink events in 2014 – it was totally unexpected. We were then recognised as a school for outstanding fundraising and Laura and I were invited to the merger charity event of Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

I think it was this that spurred us on and that night we pledged to raise at least £4,000 for 2015. We were then asked to take part in a photo shoot for Breast Cancer Now and after running my first ever gala night on top of our usual pink events we managed to raise £4,720.

It was at this point that I knew we needed to hit £10,000 in three years. Fast forward to present day and we have raised £10,358.16! Something that only a few years ago seemed impossible.

Making a real difference

Working with Breast Cancer Now has become such a huge part of my life and one of the things that I am most proud of in my career so far. It has opened up so many opportunities for us as a school and it is wonderful each year showing the girls that fundraising really does make a difference.

Each year we have so much fun and our students get more inspired to do more and more. Although it is a lot of work to squeeze in during one of our busiest terms at school, it is so worth it. Coming together as a community during October for wear it pink is so special and our girls take it very seriously.

The team at Breast Cancer Now are so dedicated and hardworking that they give you all the tools needed to run your own event no matter how big or small.
