I was diagnosed in 2013 with primary breast cancer. When I was first told the news, I was devastated and thought about whether I would be around for my kids when they were older. I told my husband ‘normality prevails’ and that is where our journey started.
My treatment included 6 rounds of chemotherapy, a mastectomy, 15 sessions of radiotherapy, 18 Herceptin sessions and reconstructive surgery 2 years later. Since going through this and after my recovery, I changed my diet and became more active. I learnt to make the most of each day!
I support Breast Cancer Now because of my diagnosis. I wanted to give back. Treatment has progressed tenfold and I would perhaps be worse off if funds had not been raised for this charity.
I have worked with the charity for a variety of campaigns. Since starting in 2014 I have organised fund raising balls, fashion shows, golf days, pizza evenings, food festivals to name but a few. In 2016 I was named fundraiser of the year for Pride of Reading. I recently held an afternoon vintage tea on a boat. All these events raise awareness and funds and together this has raised over £40k!
Taking part in the wear it pink campaign meant I could encourage others to do something fun and raise money. So, join me to show unity and to raise awareness and raise funds for this cause that affects so many.
The cure is in the cause.
