A 'Working From Home' wear it pink
Carlie's wear it pink looked a little different last year... find out how she and her work team fundraised together, whilst apart!
The team at work are always keen to get involved with fundraising, and Breast Cancer Now is such an amazing cause that we just had to take part. Signing up was easy, and we were given some great ideas and resources to make the most out of the event. Wear it pink was something we could all get involved with, even though many of the team are currently working from home - working together but working apart!
WHY WE WORE IT PINK
Unfortunately, cancer will affect everybody at some point; whether it's personally, a friend or family member or just someone you know - nearly everyone will have a connection with cancer in some shape or form. I have personally lost a friend to cancer, as well as having another friend who is a cancer survivor. There's something very daunting about finding a lump that shouldn't be there and hearing the words ‘It could be cancer’. I've had this journey and luckily my news was good news... but not everyone has this outcome. I urge you all to check your breasts!
GETTING CREATIVE… VIRTUALLY!
We decided the best way to get the word out there and raise awareness was to capture our pink efforts on video, and share this across all our social media and internal platforms. We posted the video on our Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter, as well as on our company’s main social media pages. Being able to share this across all our social media platforms was great, as we had a much bigger reach, and this encouraged more people to donate!
The filming took a bit of coordination and didn't go without its bloopers, that's for sure! Luke, our office manager performed an in-air kick of the ball straight at a neighbour’s window while wearing a ladies onesie at 7.30am! It's a good job he had nice neighbours!
As well as creating the video, we also hosted a virtual team quiz on the day, which everyone really enjoyed, and I couldn't be prouder of my team for all taking part. Even though a few are camera shy, such a worthy cause brought them out of their shell to make sure all were included. It was such a great opportunity to come together (virtually!), and have some much-needed fun, all for such an important cause.
