Five tips for a virtual wear it pink
Even if you can't be there in person, you can still fundraise for wear it pink!
Fundraising ideas for a virtual wear it pink
With 22 October fast approaching, it’s time to start planning your wear it pink day, and we are here to help! Here are some tips and suggestions on how you organise your own virtual wear it pink event, as we follow government guidelines above all else.
If you’re fundraising individually, with friends and family, or with your school or work, we’ve come up with some awesome virtual fundraising ideas to help you make the most of your wear it pink day, and raise money for life-saving breast cancer research and life-changing care.
The best place to get started is setting up your wear it pink JustGiving page. It’s a great contactless way for people to donate without using any cash, and can be done 100% online!
We know that your wear it pink event will have to look a little different this year, as you fundraise in a way that is safe and best for you and following government guidelines above all else, but we’ll be here to support you every step of the way. There’s never been a more important time to wear it pink for everyone affected by breast cancer, so thank you for taking part virtually this year!
So, if you’re fundraising alone or virtually – here’s 5 pink ideas to inspire you!
1. Wear pink every day for a month
Wear pink every day for the month of October and get friends, family or work colleagues to sponsor you! You can send them an outfit of the day photo update, which you could make into a great collage at the end of the challenge. This can work even if you’re just staying at home all day, and you could even wear a pink onesie or dressing gown if you’re having a lazy duvet day!
2. Donate your commute
We know times are tough and not everyone can afford to, but if you, your colleagues, friends and family are working from home, you might be able to donate the money that would have been spent getting into work on the day or week of wear it pink, to our life-saving breast cancer research and care. It’s simple, but it could make a huge impact.
3. Have a virtual wear it pink at work, with a contactless raffle and prizes for best dressed!
You can still all wear it pink from home and wear anything from a comfy pink onesie to a hot pink suit! You can show your outfits off on your video calls, and change your Zoom, Skype or Microsoft Teams background pink for the whole week too! We’ve even designed a wear it pink video call background – so download it now!
Set up a JustGiving page for your work’s wear it pink event and send the link out to everyone – they can then donate a few pounds to take part. There’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition at work, so vote for who has the best pink outfit and the winner could be sent a prize in the post, or even have the prize of a morning lay-in!
If you’d normally do something like a wear it pink raffle at your workplace, you could organise a contactless raffle this year instead! Call businesses to see if they’d be willing to donate prizes and ask your colleagues to enter the raffle for a chance to win. Having E-gift cards donated would work well for an entirely virtual raffle, and would save on postage!
Some businesses that you try and collect prizes from may ask for a letter confirming that you’re holding a wear it pink event for Breast Cancer Now. Just pop us an email at wearitpink@breastcancernow.org and we can sort one out for you.
4. Do a month of pink exercise challenges!
How about setting up a JustGiving page to do a whole month of exercise or sporting challenges in pink? This could be a home workout routine, skipping, hula hooping, running, cycling, you name it! Make sure you’re wearing a bit of pink (of course)! You could do this by yourself or do daily workouts with friends via video call platforms such as Zoom.
If you’re wanting to get a bit fitter, you could even do your own wear it pink version of Couch to 5K, and get people to sponsor you!
5. Host a big pink quizathon or a bingo night!
Why not become a virtual quiz master or bingo caller for the night, whilst having loads of fun and raising money for our life-changing research and care? Just download our Big Pink Quiz or our wear it pink bingo game and ask your virtual attendees to make an optional donation (with a compulsory pink dress code)!
You could host this on Zoom or Skype so everyone can come together for a fun and competitive evening. There could be pink-related prizes for the winner that you could send out in the post, or they could win a portion of the donations and give the other half to Breast Cancer Now.
Send out invitations to your friends and family over email, using our wear it pink e-invites.
