Our cycle rides have a special purpose when we take part in wear it pink
Our cycling groups, the Beverley Breezers and Beverley Vixens absolutely love any excuse to dress up and have loads of fun and laughter. We took part in our first Wear it Pink in October 2018, when l came across Breast Cancer Now online.
There’s usually around 30 cyclists and each year our rides get bigger and better
Our ‘Big Pink Ride’ is easy to organise thanks to the fundraising pack that we’re sent each year.
The 25-mile route is planned so we can stop halfway at one of our favourite cafes, The Fiddle Drill at Goodmanham. The cafe even puts a pink cake on the menu for us! Whilst we’re there drinking our coffee, we use the donation box that’s included in our fundraising pack to collect money for all the games and competitions we play.
Each rider puts so much effort into dressing themselves and their bikes in pink
We have wonderful prizes (kindly donated by our local bike shops) for the best dressed in each group and prizes for the winners of each competition. When we’re cycling, we have many waves from pedestrians and cyclists, and hoots from motorists, which all adds to the fabulous time we have.
Many ladies have collections at work and donate handmade cards to boost our fundraising efforts
The event is so well attended, as the riders have plenty of notice to put it in their diaries. Last year we raised £525 - a fabulous amount thanks to everyone’s efforts. We set up a JustGiving page for everyone to make donations which is super easy to do, and all the money goes direct to Breast Cancer Now.
I feel so proud to be part of Wear it Pink each year thanks to the support from all our cyclists
We’re really looking forward to wearing it pink again for our annual ‘Big Pink Ride’. As soon as the date is announced for 2022, I know all the ladies will be signing up to be part of ‘our event of the year!’
