Brenda is daring to do more

Posted on September 03, 2015

Long time wear it pink supporter, Brenda, spills the beans on how she went a step (or jump) further this year for her fundraising.

All Dare 705X311

I first got involved with wear it pink two years ago. I started off with just doing a raffle in the office with prizes including a dinner, a weekend away and theme park tickets. The following year I decided to go all out and dress up in pink and make everyone in the office come to work in pink too or they would have to pay a fine. We had a bake sale, collected donations from odd change in my colleague’s drawers and played a few games to raise an extra bit of cash. My sister Sandra died three years ago from breast cancer age 47. She was my best friend as well as my sister and a brilliant aunt to my three children. She was a character and always encouraged me to do what I wanted to do in life. Earlier this year I attended a focus group to help Breast Cancer Now with their planning for wear it pink this year. When they showed us the idea for the “Dare You” challenge, I must have let it slip that the one thing I would never do was an abseil…The next thing I know, I’m featuring in this year’s wear it pink photo shoot – harness in hand! What can I say about my dare – it was a surprise! I suppose they knew my fears but also know how passionate I am about raising money for Breast Cancer Now and my involvement with it over the last few years since Sandra died. So, if I have raised £2,000 by Friday 23 October I will be doing an abseil! I am petrified to say the least as I am scared of heights but I know I will overcome this in time with support from my family, friends, colleagues and the wear it pink team. I’m still figuring out exactly what I will be abseiling down, that’s what I am working on at the moment. I’ve got my challenge poster stuck up at work and I’ve set up a Just Giving page too. Take a look and help get me one step higher! I will be going all out on the day, dressing up in pink is a must, I’ll be organising raffles, a cake sale and collecting money. I’ll be completing my challenge at the end of the day, as I will be pumped up with the excitement of the day. I’m hoping this will eliminate my fear. Wish me luck!
