Introducing… the 2018 wear it pink team!
A new year of wear it pink is upon us and, with a few new faces to our team, we thought it was time to introduce ourselves properly!
Lottie manages wear it pink and leads the entire campaign. Having been at Breast Cancer Now for three and a half years, Lottie knows the place inside and out. She used to work with the Community and Challenge Events teams before coming over to the wear it pink team. You’ll usually find her listening to her amazing selection of power ballads while working.
What do you love most about wear it pink?
Life gets busy and time seems to fly by. Wear it pink day is an opportunity to stop, think and (most importantly) act.
What activity would you choose to do for your perfect wear it pink day?
I would definitely go all out with the fancy dress – last year I had the most amazing wig and pink shoes. Cakes are always good too so I’d definitely make my signature chocolate and Guinness cake ..... though I never win the baking competition which is always gutting!
Do you have any fun hobbies?
I love pottery! I've been making things for a couple of years now and attend a class every Tuesday. It gets quite addictive!
If you could have dinner with one person, who would it be?
Such a tricky question! I'm slightly obsessed with the West Wing and would love to have dinner with CJ Cregg (if she were a real person). She's one of my favourite TV characters of all time!
Summer is in charge of looking after all of you to make your pink days as smooth as possible. From the beach to the city, she made the move from the Sunshine Coast in Australia to London two and a half years ago and has worked here for almost as long. She’s the green fingered one of the wear it pink bunch as she is always tending to her desk plants.
Why do you think it is so important to fund breast cancer research?
Breast cancer is a thing that many women fear from a young age - something that could happen to any of us. I believe research is the key to a world where we no longer have to carry around this fear of developing breast cancer or the fear that it might affect someone we love.
Why do you love coming to work each day?
My favourite part of my job is getting to speak to our wonderful supporters and finding out why they’ve chosen to give their time and energy to raise money for breast cancer research. My colleagues are also pretty amazing.
Tell us a random fact about yourself!
I only saw snow for the first time when I was 23 years old, which I thought was a curse because my name is Summer.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
When I’m home alone, I eat pickles out of the jar and watch Seinfeld!
Rosie is our resident wear it pink recruiter and is in charge of getting lots of new and fabulous people to join us in raising life-saving funds for our breast cancer research. Never spotted without a luke-warm cup of (very milky) tea, Rosie will often be found bragging about her board game prowess or deeply engaged in a fascinating conversation with a supporter or staff member.
What would your dream wear it pink outfit be?
My dream wear it pink outfit would be a big pink onesie with extra fluff for comfort!
What’s your favourite part of wear it pink day?
I love seeing the photos and emails that supporters send to us throughout the day on wear it pink day to let us know what they’re getting up to. I love to picture the thousands of amazing events all over the country and it’s so lovely to see how creative our supporters are and how much people genuinely care about raising money.
If you had to have one meal forever, what would it be?
I don’t know if I would eat them forever but I think most people underestimate the power of a packet of 2 minute noodles.
What is your most listened to song?
I would tell people it’s “There is a light that never goes out” by The Smiths, but if we’re being honest it’s actually “He lives in you” from the Lion King musical (or The Lion King 2 film). Don’t judge me!
Although relatively new to the team, Megan has fitted perfectly into our wear it pink family. She will be your first point of contact and can help you with everything from tips and ideas, to making sure you have everything you need for your event. She’s always dreaming about her next trip to somewhere exotic and listening to the radio whilst working.
What do you love most about working for Breast Cancer Now?
Although I’ve only been here a short while, I’ve already been introduced to so many of our wonderful supporters. Hearing different stories of the fundraising they do for wear it pink and Breast Cancer Now is so inspirational and confirms the goal behind our work.
What are you most looking forward to about wear it pink day?
I can’t wait to see the months of planning all come together on the day! It’s going to be so much fun and I’m excited to see wear it pink 2018 take off. I’ve heard there’s lots of cake on the day too which is always nice!
What’s your favourite TV show?
My all-time favourite show is Friends- it’s just timeless. But I also have big love for Scrubs, Parks & Recreation, Brooklyn 99… basically any binge-worthy show!
Do you have any strange phobias?
Any time a bird flies over my head or near me is terrifying…
